They have left their country and continue to fight: but not without high stakes. Russian journalists and scientists in exile are continuing their work in critique of the regime – even now that the Navalny case has made it increasingly apparent that this can be fatal.
Irina Dolinina and Roman Anin are Russian investigative journalists and reach an audience of millions in Russia. They are currently finishing one of their investigative clips. This is about the empty promises of the Russian army. Journalists fear that Putin will unleash a new wave of mobilization after his re-election on March 17, 2024. At the same time, their own life is threatened.
Historian Robert Latypov comes from Perm in northern Russia and works at the Bremen “Research Center for Eastern Europe”. He was also an activist at the famous Russian human rights organization Memorial. The start of the war in 2022 contained a silver lining for Latypov – as he commenced a research contract in Bremen at the same time. A shortly after this, the Russian Russian Secret service FSB added him to their wanted list.
